Safety of the
final disposal is regulated by, among other directions, the Government Decree and the Regulatory Guideline by the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority on final disposal of nuclear waste.
In safety regulations, requirements are listed separately for
- the predictable period of
time of the next thousands of years
- for a longer period of time that
contains some major climate changes.
For the predictable period of time, 0.1
mSv has been set as the maximum annual radiation dose to the most exposed people as a consequence of final disposal.
A detailed presentation of safety regulations is included in the YVL Guide D.5, final disposal of nuclear waste, published by the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority.
